Manaaki Whānau

The Cancer Society Wellington Division, Hutt Valley hub is looking to hire a Manaaki Whānau to join our team on a full-time basis (37.5 hours per week) to make a difference in the lives of people with cancer. This role will be based in Lower Hutt.

Your main focus will be to support the delivery of Supportive Care programmes in the Hutt, working directly and alongside tangata whenua in the Hutt to improve the experience of Māori, Pasifika and other groups facing inequities across the cancer continuum through appropriate partnership.

The primary focus of the position will be to:

• Support the delivery of Supportive care programmes in the Hutt
• Provide support and information for people with cancer, their whānau, hapū, and the larger tangata whenua in the Hutt
• Establish and maintain relationships with health providers in the Hutt
• Engage with our local community (particularly Māori, Pasifika, and other vulnerable groups in the Hutt experiencing larger health inequalities)
• Work actively to reduce health inequalities for Māori, Pasifika, and other vulnerable groups experiencing cancer

About you
To be successful in this role you will have: -

• A current registration as Nurse, Social Worker, Counsellor, Psychologist, or others with practicing certificate
• At least 2 years clinical experience preferably in Oncology, or a Community role
• Actively engaged within the local Iwi, and Pasifika communities in the Hutt (other communities will be an advantage)
• Understanding of the medical, behavioural, and socio-environmental approaches to health
• Knowledge and understanding of Te Tiriti-based health promotion
• Cultural awareness and responsiveness to different cultural needs, in particular Māori and Pasifika; experience working with other cultures essential

Due to the requirement of the role engaging with local Iwi and Pasifika groups, we a looking for Māori and/or Pasifika individual for this role, who is based in the Hutt.
