The Cancer Society Greater Wellington Centre is looking to hire two Cancer Support Nurses to join our team on part-time or full-time basis to make a difference in the lives of people with cancer.

About the role

The Cancer Society Greater Wellington Centre is looking to hire two (2) Cancer Support Nurses to join our team on part-time or full-time basis to make a difference in the lives of people with cancer. 

This role is based in our Newtown office. 

You will be part of a small, but passionate local team as well as an extended team of colleagues in the same role as you across our Wellington Division, who you will connect with on a regular basis. 

 

The primary focus of the position will be to:

  • Assess client calls coming to our 0800 CANCER number, and provide health information (specifically about cancer), and provide urgent support to clients and/or their whanau who contact us in the number
  • Document client information in our client database
  • Greet, assist, and support centre visitors, who will require health information or support as they process their cancer journey
  • Participate in Cancer workshops for our clients and/or volunteers 
  • Collaborate with other organisations, and the broader Cancer Society network
  • Increase awareness and use of the Cancer Society support services.

 

About you

To be successful in this role you will have: -

  • Registered nurse with current Nursing Council of New Zealand Annual practicing certificate
  • Two years clinical experience as a Registered Nurse, with (ideally) Oncology/Haematology and community nursing experience
  • A relevant graduate / post-graduate study in Oncology / Haematology nursing is desirable
  • Cultural awareness and responsiveness to different cultural needs, in particular Māori and Pasifika; experience working with other cultures essential
