Good food, good song and a good cause make for a great evening at the Cancer Society’s Lions Lodge gala dinner at Vilagrad on 9 February.
Howie Morrison Jr and Chris Powley – perhaps better known as one half of the iconic entertainment group Howard Morrison Quartet Take Two – are excited to perform at the fundraiser for the Lodge.
It’s a cause that’s close to both their hearts. In 1998, Chris was diagnosed with testicular cancer. And last year Howie’s wife, Wai, underwent five weeks of radiation treatment at Waikato Hospital.
During that time, Wai was a guest at the Lodge.
“We were overwhelmed by the manaaki and support shown by all staff members, nurses, and fellow residents as well,” says Howie.
“We really appreciate the opportunity to give something back.”
Accommodation and meals at the Lodge are free for people with cancer who need to travel for vital treatment at Waikato Hospital. The Lodge also provides a valuable opportunity for guests to meet and draw mutual support from others going through a similar experience.
The gala will celebrate ten years of the Cancer Society’s Lions Lodge accommodation facility on Lake Road in Hamilton.
Gala-style games and some impressive items going under the hammer, like signed Emirates Team New Zealand kit and 5 nights’ accommodation with gorgeous sea views over Raglan, will round out the evening’s entertainment.
Funds raised will help ensure the Lodge remains a welcoming home away from home for guests for years to come.
Tickets are just $100 for a delicious, relaxed two-course meal at Vilagrad’s stunning venue. Cash bar available.
