Can ascorbate enhance KDM activity and prevent genomic instability in melanoma?
New Zealand has the world’s highest mortality rate for melanoma, with around 300 New Zealanders dying from this cancer annually. Despite recent advances in treatment for melanoma, there are still a large number who don’t respond to treatment, and improved treatments for these people are urgently needed. Recent studies have highlighted a potential role for vitamin C in the treatment of cancer, and our research group is interested in investigating this further. This project looks to examine if vitamin C could be an effective complimentary therapy for melanoma, by examining its potential role in the cellular changes involved in resistance to cancer treatment.
